Visually Impaired ProgrammingPresented by Birmingham Museum of Art at Birmingham Museum of Art June 9, 2012 The Museum resumes its tours for visitors with visual impairments this spring. In this program for adults, specially trained docents present the permanent collection by means of verbal descriptions, three-dimensional tactile models based on original works of art, and sculpture. In 1785, when the Prince of Wales secretly proposed to Mrs. Maria Fitzherbert with a miniature of his own eye, he inspired an aristocratic fad for exchanging eye portraits mounted in a wide variety of settings including brooches, rings, lockets, and toothpick cases.
