Arlington Antebellum Home and Gardens

Arlington is a fine example of Greek Revival architecture dating from the 1840s. The house was built by Judge William S. Mudd, one of the ten founders of Birmingham. The house is furnished with a collection of 19th century decorative arts. Located on six acres in the heart of Old Elyton, the first permanent County Seat of Jefferson County, Arlington is a center for historical, cultural, and civic activities.

Directions: Arlington is located approximately l.5 miles west of downtown Birmingham on lst Avenue North (becomes Cotton Avenue). From I-65 South, take the 6th Avenue North exit; from I-65 North, take the 3rd Avenue North exit. Then follow green and white directional signs.

Hours: Tuesday through Saturday – 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m., Sunday – 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Closed Mondays and city holidays. Admission: $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per student 6 to 18 years old. Special rates available for groups. Docents provided with advance reservation. Rates subject to change.

Facility Rental: Arlington’s historic dining room is available for breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, and receptions. Weddings are scheduled on the beautifully landscaped grounds. All events are reserved in advance. Summer Event: Thursdays at Arlington: Dine in Arlington’s historic garden room each Thursday in June, July and August. A complimentary tour of the museum is included with lunch.
