A Bicycle Parade and a Fishing Rodeo for children will be held Saturday, June 29, 9 am until noon in Avondale Park. The Avondale Park pond will be stocked with hundreds of large Catfish, and there will be awards for the largest fish caught and for the best decorated ride: bicycle, tricycle, scooter or wagon, and awards will be presented for the greatest distance for a watermelon seed spit. There will be prize drawings every half-hour for valuable door prizes for all ages given by local businesses for all ages.Sponsors for the event are the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board, with Stanley Robinson coordinating; the Friends of Avondale Park, with Bethanne Hill, chairing the event and the Avondale-Forest Park Merchants Association, represented by Richard Stewart. Bici Cooperative, whose members will offer adjustments and some repairs for the cyclists, will also offer prize vouchers for refurbished bicycles.Those participating in the Fishing Rodeo should bring a fishing pole or rod and reel with some bait.
