The Wells Fargo Classical EDGE: Hannah Lash
October 25, 2013
The ASO is thrilled to introduce acclaimed composer Hannah Lash, our Sound Investment Composer for next season. Ms. Lash has emerged as a leading voice of her generation and received numerous prizes from all over the world. She has curated (and will be speaking about) a program of her own work plus pieces by the three composers who have most influenced her both emotionally and intellectually: Stravinsky, Mozart, and her teacher, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Bernard Rands. Her composition Hush — receiving its Alabama premiere — is propelled forward by a cumulative layering of sound and texture, noted as "striking and resourceful ... handsomely brooding" in The New York Times review. Danail Rachev returns to Birmingham to conduct.
