Bards & Brews Open Mic Poetry Event

November’s Bards & Brews will be an open mic event at the Central Library. Sign up and music at 6:30 p.m., call time is 7:00 p.m. Music by Nabeel. Emcee Brian “Voice Porter” Hawkins will deftly guide both novice and veteran poets through an evening of verse with topics that run the gamut from romantic relationships to local politics. Beer tasting will be available courtesy of Good People Brewing Company and Back Forty Beer Company. Attendees must be 18 years or older to be admitted, and 21 years or older to be served. IDs will be checked. Made possible in part by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

Note: This Bards & Brews event will be at half-time for about 15 minutes and will serve as a promotion for a November 8 reading of Alabama Poet Laureate Andrew Glaze’s poems by the Nitty Gritty Magic City poetry group on November 8, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Desert Island Supply Co. An exhibit of Glaze’s photographs and memorabilia will be at the Central Library’s First Floor Gallery from November 6 through December 31.
