Grafting Native Fruit Trees Part I

The age-old process of grafting is done for many different reasons, using a variety of techniques; it may be done to: produce more plants, increase fruit production via cross-pollination, improve hardiness and/or pest resistance, or to combine different species, varieties or sexes into one plant. It may even be done to carry on a specific trait in a plant, such as it being a dwarf selection. Part I of this class will primarily study bench grafting, which is grafting stems of one species, variety or sex onto root stock of another. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands on grafting and will be able to take two of their grafted specimens home. Part II of this class will cover other methods of grafting and will be held later in the season.

Participants are encouraged to bring a grafting knife. If you’d like us to have one for you, they are $25.
