Hope in Motion: The Alabama Christian Movement for Human RIghts

Presented by Birmingham Civil Rights Institute at Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Birmingham AL

Ongoing
Hope in Motion: The Alabama Christian Movement for Human RIghts

When the NAACP was banned in the state of Alabama in 1956, Reverend Fred L. Shuttlesworth and a group of community organizers formed the ACMHR in its absence. This exhibit, with help from the Alabama Media Group/Al.com and Dr. Howard Robinson of Alabama State University will highlight the time from December 1955 to January 1957, an integral time for the American Civil Rights Movement, Alabama’s role in it and ACMHR’s success in standing against injustice.
