University of Montevallo music professor Joseph Landers will present a recital of his compositions today at 2:30 p.m. in the Hoover Public Library, 200 Municipal Drive. Performers from UM and the Alabama Symphony will play several works, including the premiere of Landers' String Quartet No. 1. Admission is free. Landers garnered international attention in another arena last March, when his discovery of a lost Stravinsky orchestration of "Song of the Volga Boatmen" received its world premiere in London. It came to the attention of conductor Leon Botstein, who programmed the work on an all-Stravinsky program by the American Symphony Orchestra. The American premiere will take place Jan. 20 in New York's Carnegie Hall. Landers discovered the orchestral parts to the score while cleaning house at a Lindenhurst, N.Y., music library, then reconstructed the full score. Collapse
