    Birmingham Ballet

    Birmingham Ballet,founded in 1991, maintains a reputation of excellence in dance training and performance.Our mission,as a self-sustaining community arts organization, is to provide high quality family entertainment, a training ground for aspiring talent and a performance outlet for dance enthusiasts of all ages and levels of ability.The Repertory Company is comprised of professional dancers with strong classical and contemporary ballet training and experience. Birmingham Ballet features some of the most impressive talents in the Alabama dance community. Whether presenting classical treasures from the Family Series or eclectic mix of works with the Repertory Series, Birmingham Ballet dancers shine with exceptional artistry, passion, and drive. The Company consists of dancers from several different states throughout the southeast. Birmingham Ballet's company members are strong, versatile artists who have extensive experience in a variety of styles.

          A cold case murder emerged from the annals of Birmingham’s crime history Saturday in a premiere by Birmingham Ballet Repertory Company. Although Alfonso Figueroa’s ballet “The Awakening” was more of an autobiographical homage to the late arts benefactor Virginia Simpson than it was a narrative of events surrounding her 1977 murder, there was no escaping the narrative – for those who knew the story, that is.
