As an Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam, Joe Eszes witnessed first-hand the casualties of war.
And 40 years later, he can still recite the numbers by heart.
"During my year there, from March of '71 through March of '72, we sustained 14 killed and about 23 wounded, some multiple times, in an organization that comprised no more than about 200 people at any given time," Eszes remembers.
"So, yes, we bore our fair share of the casualties."
Thursday night, Eszes, who lives in Talladega County, will join as many as 400 fellow Vietnam veterans for the Southern Museum of Flight's grand opening of its new Vietnam War Helicopters Exhibit & Diorama. Collapse
