A Taste of Louisiana

Hey Chère! Ready for a little fais do-do for a good cause? Then get your appetite and geaux to A Taste of Louisiana, benefitting the Sid Strong Foundation. The presenting sponsor of this year’s food festival and cook-off is Cajun Steamer Bar & Grill. The event will be held Saturday, October 28 at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium from 11pm-3pm.

Come and enjoy great food like jambalaya, etouffee, red beans and rice, gumbo, fried catfish, bread pudding and many more traditional Louisiana dishes as local “chefs” and area restaurants will offer their favorite Cajun fare. Ready for some high-energy zydeco dancing? Then join the Birmingham Cajun Zydeco Association on the dance floor and laissez les bon temps rouler (let the good times roll)!

A Taste of Louisiana is sponsored by the Greater Birmingham LSU Alumni Association. Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance (by Wednesday, October 26) through the lsubirmingham.org website for $15. You can also mail a check and list of attendee names to: Kenny Haynes, 1600 Woodmere Drive, Birmingham, AL 35226. Additionally, tickets can be purchased at the gate the day of the event or at Cajun Steamer Restaurants in Hoover and Trussville. Kids 12 and under are free.

Got a special Louisiana-inspired recipe you want to cook? Grab your apron and cook it up for the opportunity to earn bragging rights for the best Cajun dish among local “chefs.” There will be about 20 professional and amateur cooking teams competing for the title.
