Adanma Barton: "Lost and Found" Theatrical Performance

Actor, director, and educator Adanma Barton will perform a special presentation of her new one-woman play, Lost and Found, on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Norton Theatre at Birmingham-Southern College.

Barton has served on the theatre faculty at Berea College since 2009. For her 2016-17 sabbatical project, she created a solo performance to explore the societal taboos that surround miscarriage and infertility. This month, Barton began touring with her production and teaching solo performance workshops at various colleges and universities around the country.

 “So many women suffer in silence,” Barton said. “It is my hope that this production gives women the opportunity to speak up and speak out.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 10 women suffers from a condition called endometriosis, which is one of the leading causes of infertility. Barton’s performance of Lost and Found will raise awareness of women’s reproductive health, while also giving the audience a chance to respond. After the 45-minute production, Barton, a grief counselor, and an obstetrician/gynecologist will conduct a talkback. Both are free and open to the public.
