Alabama Ballet 23/24 Season

Alabama Ballet’s 2023-2024 Season opens this fall on October 20th. Highlights of the 2023-2024 Season include the holiday masterpiece George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® in December, the romantic classical ballet Giselle in February, the mixed repertoire performance An Evening of Twyla Tharp in April, and the chronicled tale of Bonnie and Clyde in May.

The season opens with Alabama Ballet At Home, a home studio performance of selected repertoire that offers a chance to see the dancers perform in an intimate atmosphere with complimentary drinks and an affordable ticket price at $20. At Home is a great way to introduce friends and family to the excitement of live ballet performance in the company’s own studio located in the Lakeview District of Southside, Birmingham. This performance will take place the last two weekends in October: Friday, October 20th through Sunday, October 22nd and Friday, October 27th through Sunday, October 29th. Tickets for these performances will be on sale September 5th.

Alabama Ballet proudly presents George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® at The BJCC Concert Hall December 17th through the 23rd. The Alabama Ballet remains one of only eight companies in the world granted the rights to perform this holiday classic by The Balanchine Trust. Performed to Balanchine’s exacting specifications; dazzling choreography, opulent costumes and extravagant sets make this production unlike any other.Tchaikovsky’s beloved melodies transport the young and young at heart to a magical world where mischievous mice besiege a battalion of toy soldiers, and an onstage blizzard leads to an enchanted Land of Sweets. Alabama Ballet is thrilled to be accompanied by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for the first four performances of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. Tickets will go on pre-sale 28th and on-sale September 8th.

February 23rd through the 25th, the company presents Giselle accompanied by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra at the BJCC Concert Hall. The most significant Romantic ballet ever creates the story of Giselle, an innocent girl who is misled into believing the words of her charming admirer. With a broken heart, she dies a maid and joins the spirits of other maidens who are condemned to exist in the darkness of the forest. Tickets will go on pre-sale December 18th and on-sale December 26th.

April 5th through the 7th, Alabama Ballet presents a mixed-repertory performance, An Evening of Twyla Tharp, at The Dorothy Jemison Day Theater. This performance features two iconic pieces by the legendary American choreographer Twyla Tharp. “Baker’s Dozen” embodies this sense of economy and integration, which is closely tied to Tharp’s Indiana Quaker roots. The movement expresses harmony, playfulness and easy virtuosity. “Nine Sinatra Songs” presents a glamorous portrait of seven couples that traces the arc of romantic relationships. The dancers swing, swirl, tango and cha-cha through a glittering ballroom. Tickets go on presale February 26th and on-sale March 4th.
