Join the Friends of Avondale Park as we partner with the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for the third of a multi-year effort to plant 150+ trees that have been grown from seeds collected at Avondale Park by the Botanical Garden’s own Director of Education, Mr. Henry Hughes. We are repopulating a forest that is at least 7,000 years old and filling in the gaps from where trees have been lost recently due to drought, construction, kudzu, and old age. We need volunteers to help dig holes and plant saplings. We will have some tools, but bring your own work gloves and digging instruments. The ground we are working in is rocky and dry, so pickaxes and mattocks will be helpful.
*** MEETING LOCATION*** Please meet at the 40th Street & 7th Avenue park entrance at 8 a.m. for instructions and information before we head to the primary planting site. Take a look at the weather and dress appropriately!
