Birmingham Artwalk

Birmingham Artwalk, presented by Urban Standard and friends, is set for September 7 & 8 in Birmingham’s Loft District.

The 17^th annual arts festival showcases local and regional art as part of a juried art show. Friday night (September 7) is similar to a giant gallery opening, with all the energy and excitement of a street festival. Saturday afternoon (September 8) caters more to families with special children’s activities in the Kid’s Zone on Morris Avenue. In addition, both days always offer an enticing glimpse to attendees of the economic, residential and cultural revitalization underway downtown throughout the years.

Seventeen years ago, a small group of artists, residents and businesses in the Historic Loft District came together with a good idea – to showcase local art in a way that encouraged people to experience downtown Birmingham in a new and exciting way. Nearly two decades later, Artwalk has expanded to include even more businesses, artists and performers throughout the much anticipated weekend.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring our show to the City once again,” Joy Myers, executive director of Birmingham Artwalk said.  “We’ve seen an incredible growth in retail and residential property throughout our 17 years across our footprint and we are proud to be a part of that dynamic energy once again. We are sure this year’s show will be better than all the ones before!”

Set for September 7-8, Artwalk transforms the city’s historic loft neighborhood into a vibrant arts district, featuring the work of more than 100 visual artists, live music, street performers, food and drink, and children’s activities. This free festival draws more than 15,000 people downtown each year to experience art in an urban environment. Since its inception in 2002, Birmingham Artwalk has featured more than 450 local and regional artists.

The Artwalk district is located on Morris Avenue, 1^st Avenue North and 2^nd Avenue North between 22^nd and 25^th Streets. The event will take place Friday, September 7 from 5 to 10 pm. and Saturday, September 8 from 10 am to 6 pm.  For additional information, please visit www.birminghamartwalk.org.
