Birmingham Speaks is a series of community conversations inspired by “Independence Eve,” a new one-act chamber opera exploring the troubled journey of race relations in America.

Hear from the composer, Sidney Marquez Boquiren, and the librettist, Daniel Neer, when they come to Birmingham to share insight and inspiration surrounding the creation of this emotional and relevant opera. Opera Birmingham’s general director, Keith A. Wolfe, leads the discussion. A reception will follow the conversation.
