Choral Evensong

The Cathedral Choir, under the leadership of Frederick Teardo, Director of Music and Organist, and Charles Kennedy, Associate Director of Music and Organist, sings monthly Choral Evensong services throughout the program year. This month’s Choral Evensong will be sung by the Advent Episcopal School Choral Ensemble, under the direction of Richard C. Phillips. The service of Choral Evensong uses the Order for Evening Prayer, taken from the 1662 edition of the Book of Common Prayer. Each service includes an Introit, the Canticles, and an Anthem, and is framed by hymns sung at the opening and close of the service. The Canticles sung are the Magnificat (Song of Mary) and Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon). In addition to two lessons read from the Bible, the clergy officiant gives a short homily reflecting on the readings of the day.
