Join us for a forum, Being Muslim in Alabama: a Discussion with Mark Potok, Sr. Fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center; Khaula Hadeed, Executive Director of the Alabama Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations; Ashfaq Taufique, President of the Birmingham Islamic Society. Today’s polarized political climate calls for reasonable dialog and sincere effort from each of us to better understand the rich, varied fabric of American society and all the members of  the U.S. culture that never stands still. Come learn more about Alabamian Islamic relations and ways we can better understand one another as we work to make a better community for us all. Mark Potok is one of the country’s leading experts on the world of extremism and serves as the editor-in-chief of the SPLC’s award-winning, quarterly journal, the Intelligence Report and its investigative reports. A graduate of the University of Chicago, Mark has appeared on numerous television news programs and is quoted regularly by journalists and scholars in both the United States and abroad. In addition, he has testified before the U.S. Senate, the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights and in other venues.  www.splcenter.org Khaula Hadeed received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from AUM, as well as her Master’s Degree in International Relations. She’s a graduate of Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. Upon graduating, she received the National Association of Women Lawyers Award. Khaula helped establish the AL chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations and now serves as its Executive Director.
