Fossil Hunt

Join the hunt for rare fossils that pre-date the dinosaurs! Fresh Air Family takes you to a world-class fossil site near Sumiton, where scientists from around the globe come to study early plant and animal life. It is one of three Coal Age fossil sites in the world where ancient swamp life is preserved in fossil tracks. Our families have found museum-quality pieces! Paleontologists will be on hand to guide you and your family to your own special finds. Bring a small hammer and screw driver to find treasures — yours to keep. Also bring a box with wrappings to take home your finds. Reservations required as we have limited spaces and this site is not open to the public. Fun for all ages, but there is rough terrain. Two sessions, one at 9:00 am SOLD OUT, one starting at 1:00 pm.
