Gosse Nature Walk #16: W.E. Putnam Middle School

The sixteenth installation of our Gosse Nature Walk Series takes us to the trails behind Birmingham’s W.E. Putnam Middle School. Join us for autumnal botany and birds with special guest, Jones Valley Teaching Farm’s Kelly Baker. With an abundance of mature pines, understory natives, and large oaks, Putnam’s ten acres represent much-needed urban habitat for Red-tailed Hawks, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and climate-endangered Brown-headed Nuthatches.

ADMISSION INFO

Pre-registration requested.

The details: Meetup is at noon in front of the main entrance to the school. Parking is available in the front and side parking lots. Insect repellent, rain gear, sunblock, and seasonally appropriate attire may all come in handy, depending on the weather. We advise wearing long pants and close-toed shoes as there is a possibility of poison ivy on the trail.

Accessibility: Easy walk through wooded trail
