King of the Grill - BBQ Cook-off

King of the Grill, Growing Kings’ inaugural barbecue cookoff, is a fundraising event sure to satisfy everyone’s appetite for learning more about the organization’s work and to sample Birmingham’s finest BBQ.

Twenty cooking teams will compete to be crowned “King of the Grill.” Teams will have an opportunity to employ the volunteer services of 1-2 students from our Journey of a King program, who will act as cooking assistants. Dishes will be judged based on Taste, Aroma, Appearance, and Team Spirit. Teams will compete for a chance at six different titles: Best Chicken Dish, Best Pork Dish, Best Beef Dish, Best Sauce, People’s Choice, and Best Overall. Along with bragging rights, the winning teams will be presented with a custom King of the Grill trophy.

A unique feature of King of the Grill will be our Journey of a Kingdom buildouts, designed to give attendees a taste of Growing Kings’ school-based programs.  Each build-out will present guests with an in-depth look at our Prince Charming, Measures of a Man, and Scholars & Gentlemen programs.

KIDS 10 AND UNDER ARE FREE! There will be a KidZones with plenty of outdoor activities and additional food options will be available for purchase.
