New Member Orientation and Open Rehearsal

Twice annually the Magic City Choral Society’s MASTER CHORALE holds an OPEN REHEARSAL for prospective new members..  At that time prospective members can come to meet returning singers, learn about the up-coming season, and rehearse with with the Master Chorale and the conductor to get a feel for what we do.  

Within the world of music the term performance practice refers to  “the way in which mus. is perf., especially as it relates to the quest for the ‘authentic’ style of performing the mus. of previous generations and eras. Its study covers notation, ornamentation, instruments, voice production, tuning and pitch, and the size of ensembles and choruses.” While it is more common to find this word applied to performances of much older music, it ought to be the endeavor of every musician, unless out of specific design, to attempt a reasonable performance facsimile of how one might experience any music in the setting from which it is originally derived and/or found. It is to that end the Master Chorale aims our spring 2016 concert series, “Convictions, expression of a modern faith” will be May 17 and 19.  It will feature the Alabama premier of Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass.  The second half of the concert will explore the unique and diverse contributions to the world of sacred music made by the various worship styles found in the United States.
