The Birmingham African American Genealogy Group presents 2023 BLACK HERITAGE FAIR

The theme for this year’s celebration is BLACK RESISTANCE.  There will be two speakers addressing ASLAH’s theme and a number of exhibits outlining topics where BLACK RESISTANCE against oppression, racism, subversion, lynching, and all amounts of man’s inhumanity to man. It was through BLACK RESISTANCE that much was overcome in life’s challenges and obstacles.

Our morning speaker is Barry McNealy, Historical Content Expert for the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and our afternoon speaker will be Tafeni L. English, Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Alabama state office in Montgomery, Alabama.

In addition to the speakers and exhibits, there will be a musical presentation by the Southside Men’s Chorus and a reading and songs by the African Dance Kids.
