The Birmingham Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present ‘The Birmingham “Big Sing”’, taking place at Mountain Brook Baptist Church on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 7:00 pm, and featuring guest conductor/organist Nicholas Bowden.
This free to the public event will bring the city together through favorite hymns, anthems and Gospel songs in a concert setting led by some of the city’s finest conductors and organists joined by full orchestral brass, percussion and singers from over a dozen area choirs. A wide variety of music with stirring arrangements will create an evening of undiluted joy!
Bowden, an Alabama native, served for 21 years as organist of the nation’s largest Presbyterian Church. He will be bringing with him Scott Atchison (Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Atlanta), the pianist and arranger Daniel Solberg, and flutist Cain Oscar Burgereon. Soprano Sharon Lawhon will be featured in this program, along with James Cook (Birmingham-Southern College), Faythe Freese (University of Alabama), Bruce Ludwick (Cathedral of St. Paul’s), Jeff McLelland (Independent Presbyterian), Paul Mosteller (University of Alabama at Birmingham), Fred Teardo (Cathedral Church of the Advent), and Leslie Teardo (Saint Luke’s Episcopal).
