The Dresser is the second show of Birmingham Festival Theatre’s “Pursuit of Happiness” Season. A highly anticipated revival and long-time favorite written by the accomplished South African playwright Ronald Harwood.
Based on the author’s own experiences as dresser to Sir Donald Wolfit, this bracing, heartbreaking story is an elegy to a by-gone era. Backstage at a theatre in the English provinces during WWII, Sir, the last of the great breed of English actor/managers, is in a bad way tonight, as his dresser Norman tries valiantly to prepare him to go on stage as King Lear. Tickets are $25 general admission, $15 per person for group of ten, $10 students with valid ID, and the second Thursday is pay-what-you-can ($10 minimum).
