The Birmingham Chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) represents the Birmingham area’s portion of the Alabama Council’s membership of approximately 770 licensed architects, interns and affiliates. Architects join the AIA at the National, state and local levels.The Birmingham Chapter includes; Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties. Our chapter was chartered in January 1965.

For almost 150 years, members of The American Institute of Architects have worked with each other and their communities to create a more valuable, healthy, secure and sustainable buildings and cityscapes. As architects together, we give voice to our shared values in order to shape our neighborhoods. AIA members strive to make the world a better place for everyone to live, work and play.

Our primary goal is to promote good design, quality and practice of architecture.
