The first event of what is now called the Alabama Mountain Games (AMG) made its debut in 2005 as a small whitewater kayaking competition. The primary goal of the founders was to create a unique, annual, extreme outdoor sporting event that was not only entertaining, but also brought awareness and respect of such sports to the mainstream. The word spread quickly and from 2006 to 2009, the small riverside festival became a successful and sought-after event in the kayaking community throughout the Mid-South. In 2010, the festival took a chance and broadened its sporting event focus and relocated to Boogie Bottoms Family Entertainment Park in Cleveland, AL.

This spacious property, set on 375 acres, and back-dropped by a breathtaking view of the Locust Fork River, offers a drive-in movie screen, concession stands, built-in stage areas, and ample camping. Alabama Mountain Games expanded the menu of sports participation to include kayaking, wakeboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, disc golf, stand up paddleboarding, and fishing. The event grew to include live music, a retail marketplace, arts and crafts, games, and children’s activities.
