GirlSpring was founded by philanthropist and social activist Jane Stephens Comer in 2010. GirlSpring is a nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organization whose mission is to provide access to reliable information, inspiring events, and positive role models so girls and (ages 9-18) are empowered to reach their full potential. GirlSpring.com launched in 2016 and reaches an average of 15,000 girls per month in Birmingham, Alabama and across the globe through its digital platform, programs, camps, and educational opportunities.

PROGRAMS

Our largest program, the Springboarders is comprised of girls ages 13-18 from Birmingham and surrounding areas. The girls use our digital platform, Girlspring.com, as an outlet for expression and a place to amplify their collective voices. Girls create content in the form of personal essays, poetry, artwork, podcasts and more. The 2024 class has a total of 70 girls! Girls meet once a month, plus participate in community volunteer events and help plan educational and social gatherings to create a community of female empowerment.

In-school programs utilize an emotional intelligence curriculum developed for girls in middle and high school. These are facilitated by trained staff members and volunteers in schools throughout the Birmingham area.

SHE Camp is a one-week comedy and improv camp for girls ages 9-16.
