Birmingham Children’s Theatre, one of the nation’s oldest and largest professional theatre companies for young audiences, offers performing arts camps for children of all ages. BCT’s Summer Camps are an excellent way for youth ages 4 to 18 to collaborate with other campers and learn skills that will benefit them in the classroom and beyond. With sessions throughout June and July and offerings for all ages, we have something for everyone this summer at BCT!

Imagination Party

BCT’s Imagination Party offers one-week half-day camps for children ages four to seven. Using a variety of themes as springboards, campers explore story-telling, art, song, instrument play, and imagination. Through these various drama, music, movement, and visual art activities, these classes promote confidence, self-esteem, and creative expression while working on developmental skills such as active listening and sharing.

BCT Studio

An immersive experience in a variety of performance areas, Players Studio campers have the opportunity to engage with the theatrical process giving them an opportunity to learn, grow, and discover new interests and talents. Campers will also have the opportunity to perform in a one-act play! While working within the framework of the theatrical process, these students will learn to collaborate with cast mates and expand their communication skills.

BCT’S SUMMER YOUTH PRODUCTION

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, BIG FISH centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to the fullest…and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, BIG FISH is an extraordinary musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that’s richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself.

This month-long session is for older students who want to take their theatre production and performance skills to the next level! BCT’s MAGIC Players program features a split schedule of specialized technique classes in addition to rehearsals for a full youth production of Big Fish: School Edition.
