The image of spring ignites hope and is highly revered for the renewal and budding of relationships. Poets and playwrights have long celebrated this season with texts that enliven the senses and speak to the heart, engaging the imagination as to the delights of spring and new love.

Program: This concert will thematically represent the opening of spring metaphorically as the fire of new love through music in the styles of Renaissance and modern madrigal and chansons. Featuring the music of lauded American composer Morten Johannes Lauridsen, the chorale will perform several of his best-known works including Les Chansons des Roses and Six “Fire Songs” on Italian Renaissance Poems. Texts will also be drawn from English playwright William Shakespeare, German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, Italian poet Giovanni Guidiccioni, and John Lennon, among others.
