Books not Bars: Youth Justice Awareness Month Book Drive

Books not Bars: Youth Justice Awareness Month Book Drive

at Birmingham Bar Center

Did you know that hundreds of youth are kept in adult jails across Alabama each year? Children awaiting trial are often housed at local jails for long periods of time without access to education or mental health services, both of which are desperately needed resources.

In honor of October’s Youth Justice Awareness Month, the Southern Poverty Law Center will partner with organizations and schools across Alabama to collect book donations for incarcerated youth in Alabama.

Books must be new or gently used, soft-cover, and appropriate for kids with 3rd-12th grade reading levels.
