The Hugh and Barbara Thomas Master Class Series at Birmingham-Southern College will present guest artist and internationally acclaimed pianist Einav Yarden on Monday, Oct. 10.

Her visit will include a master class for BSC music students and a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Hill Recital Hall on campus. Her performance will feature works by Beethoven, Bolcom, Haydn and Schumann. It is open to the public and admission is free.

“We are extremely fortunate to be able to bring her to campus,” said Dr. Lester Seigel, Joseph Hugh Thomas Professor of Music at BSC. “She is an extraordinarily gifted artist, and we are so pleased our students will be able to engage with and learn from her.”

Yarden studied with renowned pianist Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Conservatory, and in 2005, earned her master of music and graduate performance diploma, according to her press biography. She has performed as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Minnesota Symphony, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Calgary Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony, and others.

In 2013, she released her debut solo CD Oscillations. In 2016, she released her second CD featuring Haydn Sonatas.

She recently won third prize at the prestigious International Beethoven Piano Competition in Bonn, where she also performed with cellist Mischa Maisky. As part of the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, she was personally invited by Andras Schiff to take part in a special intensive workshop on the Beethoven concerti, which was also recorded and televised throughout Japan in a 12-part program series.

Yarden has been praised for her “…imagination and exceptionally vivid playing…Sense of immense majesty, tempered by gentleness and quiet grace” by the Washington Post; the Tagesspiegel in Germany wrote that her performance was “glistening rapture…ingenious humor.”
