The public is invited to the Alabama Veterans Memorial Park for the annual Veterans Day Patriotic Tribute on Sunday, November 6th from 1:00PM to 4:30PM.  It is located at 100 Overton Access Road (I-459 and Liberty Parkway Exit 23) in Birmingham.  The afternoon will be filled with educational and patriotic activities for veterans and for supporters of veterans – both children and adults.  From 1:00 until 3:00 the “Faces of the Price of Freedom Exhibit,” presented by the Blue Star Salute Foundation can be viewed near the entrance to the Memorial Trail.  The Hoover High School Jazz Band will begin playing at 1:00 near the Memorial Plaza.

The Patriotic Program begins at 1:45 in the Memorial Plaza.  This year’s speaker will be Jefferson County Manager, Tony Petelos; the Colors will be presented by UAB ROTC; the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by MOAA Veteran of the Year 2016, LTC (Ret) Charlie Marvin; and, patriotic music will be sung by the Homewood Middle School Choir.

While at the Park guests are encouraged to view the Regiment of Columns where stories, letters, and artwork about Alabama veterans and Alabama’s 24 Medal of Honor recipients have been cast in metal and mounted in relief.   Next to the Columns is the impressive Hall of Honor where guests can view the names of over 11,000 Alabamians who lost their lives in service to their country in the 20th and 21st centuries.

There is no admission fee for this event.  Golf carts are available for transportation to the Memorial Plaza for those needing assistance.   All events will take place outside and seating is provided.
