James Alexander and Pamela Venz, de ja “View”

James Alexander and Pamela Venz, de ja “View”

Presented by Ground Floor Contemporary at Ground Floor Contemporary

Ground Floor Contemporary is pleased to present de ja “View,” a dynamic, minimalistic reflections of the duo James Alexander and Pam Venz with photographs opening Thursday, October 27, 2016.  What happens when decades of intimately shared experiences between two individuals are recorded through generational and conceptual discrepancies?  For the past 32 years, James Alexander and Pam Venz have been companions in life, love, and creative vision.

Both academic artists, Alexander and Venz have spent much of their lives teaching fine arts in Birmingham.  Alexander has taught both sculpture and ceramic sculpture at the University of Alabama at Birmingham since 1978, while Venz—also a trained sculptor—has taught photography at Birmingham-Southern College since 1986.  Married in 1984, the pair has been constructing work that reflects their shared experiences through their own conceptual and aesthetic vocabularies.  A fifteen-year difference in age further amplifies the variation of these works.

de ja “View” opens Thursday, October 27, from 5pm to 8pm, and will also be open on the three following Sundays.  Sunday gallery hours are from 1pm to 4pm and will include discussions and conversations with the exhibiting artists.

Ground Floor Contemporary is a contemporary art gallery providing exhibition opportunities for its member artists, and committed to promoting and expanding the visual arts scene in the greater Birmingham area. The gallery space is open to the public from 1pm to 4pm on Sundays and by appointment.
