Irasema, who was born in north Mexico but was raised in Alabama, takes influences from her life experiences, including living as an undocumented immigrant, losing both her siblings, and struggling with her mental health. She received her BFA from UAB, and her MFA from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She regularly teaches workshops and lectures on her research in book arts, letterpress printing, hand papermaking, and graphic design.
