The Amernet String Quartet has garnered recognition as one of today’s exceptional string quartets and are Ensemble-in-Residence at Florida International University in Miami. Their sound has been called “complex” but with an “old world flavor.” Strad Magazine described the Amernet as “…a group of exceptional technical ability.” The Amernet was founded in 1992 at The Juilliard School and was the First prize winner of the Banff, Tokyo, and Fischoff chamber music competitions.

The Amernet has always been committed to the music of our time, and now under the moniker AmerneXt, the Amernet is adopting some of the great works of the late 20th and 21st centuries in the context of earlier and traditional music. The Amernet maintains a strong commitment to performing music by living composers, having worked closely with composers such as John Corigliano, Orlando Garcia, John Harbison, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Augusta Read Thomas, Fredrick Kaufman, Bernard Rands, Gerhard Samuel, Morton Subotnick, Dmitri Tymoczko, and Chinary Ung. Scrollworks Youth Music School is a program of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of Central Alabama, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to making music instruction and ensemble playing available to all, thereby developing character and sense of community. Young people of diverse racial, social, cultural, and economic backgrounds are encouraged to explore and cultivate their musical talent and contribute to Alabama’s musical culture. Over 200 students participate each year. Many have been denied music education in their neighborhood schools. Since our founding in 2007, the MYOCA has generated two Alabama Symphony Orchestra Rising Stars, as well as placing almost two dozen students in the prestigious Alabama School of Fine Arts.

The Birmingham Art Music Alliance is an autonomous nonprofit organization with the twofold mission of promoting music by Alabama composers and presenting concerts of recently created art music to communities in Birmingham and beyond. Members include local composers, professional performers, students, and enthusiasts who wish to preserve and maintain the long tradition of music as a living art form. In addition to our exciting concert series, The BAMA Players, professional performing members of the Alliance, are involved in presenting numerous free programs each year in educational institutions and other community venues – all this on a very tight budget!
