UAB Department of Biology presents Darwin Day 2024, featuring a keynote lecture by Dr. Athena Aktipis, host of the podcast “Zombified” and author of the book “The Cheating Cell: How Evolution Helps Us Understand and Treat Cancer.”
UAB Darwin Day is presented by the Department of Biology and sponsored by the Departments of Anthropology and Psychology, and the UAB Honors College.
Athena Aktipis, Associate Professor of Psychology at Arizona State University, is a cooperation theorist, evolutionary biologist, and cancer biologist who researches cooperation in humans, particularly in times of need, as well as other systems that are governed by fundamental tensions between cooperation and conflict. She’s the co-founder of The Human Generosity Project and host of the podcast, Zombified. Her newest book “The Cheating Cell: How evolution helps us understand and treat cancer”, will be the focus of her Darwin Day lecture.
