Yellahammered: Home For The Holidays #3

Presented by Yellahammered at Workplay

Yellahammered is a live Alabama-themed comedy event complete with world-class comedians, authentic homemade southern cuisine, and the fellowship of friends and family. Started in the summer of 2014 by Alabama natives and Los Angeles-based stand-up comedians Wes Van Horn, Rivers Langley and Joe Raines, it has quickly become one of the most popular and talked-about live monthly shows in Los Angeles, with performers from Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime, IFC, pretty much every late night comedy show (including Conan, Fallon, Letterman, and Leno), and more!  On December 23rd – and for the third year in a row- Langley, Raines, and Van Horn are bringing their show home for the holidays and they’re bringing some of their wonderfully talented friends from Los Angeles, New York, Birmingham, and beyond to Workplay for a night of amazing food and hilarious stand-up comedy. That’s a delicious dinner and an incredible show for only $15! Doors open and food is served at 8pm. Show starts at 9pm.

The Hosts:

Wes Van Horn (CMT, Playboy.com, Viceland)

Wes Van Horn is a stand-up comedian and writer from Birmingham, Alabama. He could be seen as a recurring guest on The Josh Wolf Show on CMT and currently writes for Playboy.com’s humor section, where he has also been known to appear in their short comedy videos. You may have also noticed him laughing and wandering around drunk in Viceland’s comedy show Flophouse. After graduating from The University of Alabama, Wes cut his teeth in clubs, colleges, dive bars, pool halls, hindu temples and basically anywhere a mic could be set up all across the Southeast and Midwest, becoming a regular act at the Kansas City Improv, Stanford & Sons Comedy Club, and a recurring guest on The Doug Benson Movie Interruption at the KC Alamo Drafthouse. In 2010, he performed at the American Pavilion at the Cannes International Film Festival in France. His unique joke writing, charm, and high energy have garnered him praise from his comedic peers, industry professionals, and audience members alike and is the reason he has been tapped to open for popular comics like Iliza Schlesinger, Kyle Kinane, TJ Miller, & Nate Bargatze.

Rivers Langley (The Goods From The Woods, Hush Money, Funny or Die)

Rivers Langley is a stand-up comedian and podcaster based out of Los Angeles. Rivers moved out west from the great state of Alabama in 2012 pursuing both a career in comedy and the whispered advice of a dying prospector promising “gold in them thar hills.” Since then, Rivers has become the host of the popular podcast, The Goods From The Woods, the co-producer of the hit stand-up showcases Unnecessary Evil, Yellahammered, and Hot Damn at The Hollywood Improv, and a member of the sketch group, Hush Money, who has been featured on Funny or Die. His mining company folded in early 2013.

Joe Raines (Laughing Skull Festival, Hell Yes Fest, Hot Damn!)

Originally from Birmingham Alabama, Joe Raines has been doing standup comedy for 11 years. He was in the very first Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta and did comedy around the southeast before moving out west. He now lives and performs in Los Angeles and is one of the producers of the successful standup comedy shows “Yellahammered!” and his new show “Hot Damn” at the Hollywood Improv. He was also recently a part of the Hell Yes Comedy Festival in New Orleans. The son of a minister and a schoolteacher, he is an atypical southerner sharing his offbeat views on all things life.

Featured Comedians:

David Perdue (Comedy Central, FuseTV)

David Perdue is an Atlanta-based comedian who has appeared on Kevin Hart Presents: “Hart of the City” on Comedy Central, and “Uproarious” on Fuse TV. In 2016 he was the Laughing Skull Festival’s “Set List Tournament Champion”, and was a 2016 Laughing Skull Festival Semi-finalist. He co-hosts a weekly sports/comedy podcast called Forth and Ten, as well as a co-producer for the award winning show and Atlanta favorite 1AM Secret Show.

Kristin Rand (2 Dope Queens, Bridgetown Comedy Festival)

Kristin Rand has been listed as a “next wave comic to watch” by Splitsider, deemed “gloriously authentic” in HeyReverb and called a “force of nature” in LA Weekly.  She’s worked with the likes of Hannibal Burress, Gabriel Iglesias & Iliza Schlesinger. Kristin has been seen and heard on stages all across the US including festivals like Riot LA and Bridgetown, iconic shows like the Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen and the Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail, and heard on WNYC’s own 2 Dope Queens. Kristin also hosts her own sold out show at the legendary Hollywood Improv.

Gilbert Lawland (Red Clay Comedy Fest)

Gilbert Lawand left the corporate world in 2007 and helped usher in an Atlanta comedy boom by producing and hosting over 300 shows called “Comedy Gold.” In 2015, he was a finalist in the Laughing Skull Festival and also produced the first and second annual Red Clay Comedy Festival. Gilbert has opened up large theater shows for both Dave Chappelle and Aziz Ansari. His comedy is a mix of social commentary and satire with a unique perspective based on his background: born in Baghdad to Catholic parents before moving to a town of 500 people in Georgia where he grew up on a farm. He recently moved to New York where he resides in Brooklyn.

Justine Marino (MTV, Last Call w/ Carson Daly, Netflix’s Dirty Sexy Funny)

Hailing from Denver, Justine discovered her love for comedy at The Groundlings Theatre shortly after moving to Los Angeles.  She quickly started performing stand up at clubs and colleges across the country, opening for the likes of Bo Burnham, Joel McHale and eventually catching the eye of Jenny McCarthy, who cast her in the Netflix special Jenny McCarthy’s Dirty, Sexy, Funny, where Justine was a breakout. Since then Justine has been featured on Last Call With Carson Daly, MTV’s Girl Code New Years Eve, and will be seen on Comedy Central’s Road to Roast Battle in January.  Justine was also selected as a New Face of Comedy at Montreal’s prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in 2014.

Yedoye Travis (Hulu, New York Times)

Yedoye Travis is a New York-based comedian from Atlanta who can be seen on the upcoming season of Coming To The Stage on Hulu. He runs the popular comedy show, Rent Party, which was recently featured in the New York Times.  Yedoye is a graduate of Birmingham’s Indian Springs School and a very cute boy who definitely did not write this bio himself.

Terry Tee (Stardome, Steve Harvey Comedy Competition)

Terry Tee is a stand-up who has performed at comedy clubs and colleges all across the nation. As the house MC for the world famous Stardome Comedy Club in Birmingham, his energetic comedic delivery has audiences laughing to tears and coming back to see more.
