The Writer's Share Presents: Skyline Motel with Sarah Buxton, Daniel Tashien, Kate York, and Ian Fitchuk

Presented by Workplay at Workplay

Skyline Motel is a once-in-a-generation collaboration of successful artists, songwriters, producers and instrumentalists. The stars aligned for founders Sarah Buxton, Kate York, Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk to create a collection of music influenced by each artist’s independent resume of skills. In-demand session guitarist Tom Bukovac and David LaBruyere, a previous player with John Mayer, were incorporated in the live band, while veteran Richard Bennett helped craft the studio sound for the project. There was no agenda for the group, except to embrace a craft each has honed for years. Ten-tracks were compiled in one evening, including ?Language of Love,? ?Sleep With Me,? and ?If You Feel Like Singing.? Nothing was written to feature one specific solo artist. Rather, the recording process naturally yielded a feature vocalist for the music. The band recently decided to release 5 of those songs on their debut EP. York might be the one to thank for casting the net that gathered the group together. Although fresh from her first country cut with Little Big Town, ?Can’t Go Back,? a new solo record in the works with Buddy Miller producing, and 9 songs of hers being placed on ABC’s hit show ?Nashville?, her persistence to be involved with an ongoing band caught the eye of Tashian. With his own band, The Silver Seas, Tashian’s song ?Imaginary Girl? has appeared in a national advertising campaign for Kenmore. Other songs of his have been in movies and also in the hit show ?Breaking Bad?. His influence extends to his childhood as he was raised in a musical family. Elektra released Tashian’s full length solo project and was produced by T-Bone Burnett. York found instant writing chemistry with Buxton during a session, and shortly after she began to court the previous major label recording artist to the idea of forming a band. Lyric Street released Buxton’s Almost My Record in 2007 followed by a full-length self titled project. She scored songwriting success with Big & Rich’s ?That’s Why I Pray? and Keith Urban’s ?Put You In A Song? and ?Stupid Boy?. She’s enjoying continued success with songs being cut by The Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line and Blake Shelton. Both York and Buxton were nominated for an EMMY in 2013 for a song they co-wrote for ABC’s ?Nashville?. The three roped in Fitchuk, a multi-instrumentalist writer/producer who’s worked with many artists including Caitlin Rose, Holly Williams, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mikky Ekko?.and soon they were off mapping out the collection. All together, they are Skyline Motel. Creating music that has become a natural expression of today, incorporating throwback sounds from genera’s and year’s past. Most importantly the creative process has been uninhibited by contracts and pretenses.
