Strength, Resilience, Justice: Recognition Ceremony Honoring Victims of Crime and Seekers of Justice

In partnership with the U.S. Attorney’s Office-Northern District of Alabama, One Place Family Justice Center presents “Strength, Resilience, Justice – A Recognition Ceremony Honoring Victims of Crime and Seekers of Justice,” on Thursday, April 6 at 8:30 am in the Diamonds Direct Ballroom overlooking Regions Field. This recognition ceremony is a part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, and will feature award presentations for crime victims who have modeled the way for fellow crime victims with their acts of courage, as well as recognition of other members of the community who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in fighting for crime victims’ rights.

This event is free and open to the public, and guests will include area law enforcement, college and university representatives, social service providers, Title IX staff and case managers, as well as area crime victims and their families. The keynote address will be provided by Meg Garvin, J.D., the executive director of the National Crime Victim Law Institute (NCVLI) and a clinical professor of law at Lewis & Clark Law School.  Ms. Garvin is recognized as a leading expert on victims’ rights, and has testified before Congress, state legislatures, and the Judicial Proceedings Panel on Sexual Assault in the Military.  In 2014, she was appointed to the Victims Advisory Group of the United States Sentencing Commission and during 2013-2014 she served on the Victim Services Subcommittee of the Response Systems to Adult Sexual Assault Crime Panel of the U.S. Department of Defense.
