Big Night of Acoustic Guitar in Birmingham

Big Night of Acoustic Guitar in Birmingham

Presented by Moonlight on the Mountain at Moonlight on the Mountain

Touring fingerstyle guitarist Daryl Shawn comes from Pittsburgh, PA to join noted local guitarist Keith Beard for an evening of acoustic guitar fireworks. The concert takes place at Moonlight on the Mountain, located at 585 Shades Crest Rd. in Birmingham. Doors open at 6:45 pm, and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12, and all ages are welcome.

An alumnus of Boston’s esteemed Berklee College of Music who went on to develop his craft during five years in Oaxaca, Mexico, Daryl Shawn combines his taste for unusual chords with the guitar-thumping techniques of flamenco and rhythms culled from African music to create an eclectic, energetic mix. Guitar International magazine has noted that he “possesses the ability to take a nylon-string guitar and make it roar with dynamic precision and raging power.” Fans of Kaki King, Tommy Emmanuel and Rodrigo y Gabriela will find much to enjoy.

Fingerstyle guitarist Keith Beard has been performing live concerts since 2013 including the Alabaster Cityfest, the Shelby County Arts Council, Moonlight on the Mountain, and the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Convention in Nashville, TN. He has also been the regular substitute guitar player for the Best of Birmingham band Act of Congress where together they performed at Workplay Theater and the Best of Birmingham 2016 celebration at The Club. He can also be found providing the ceremony music for Alabama brides throughout the year. Mary Colurso of al.com says about Beard, “the fleet-fingered guitarist is a fast and precise picker…But he’s also a thoughtful songwriter, capable of creating instrumentals that move slowly and evoke a peaceful, easy feeling”.
