Learn about one of the world’s oldest forms of painting with University of Montevallo Professor of Art Misty Bennett. Encaustic paint is comprised of pigment suspended in hot wax. Brushes and metal tools can be used to shape the paint before it cools, or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax once it has cooled onto the surface. In this workshop, each student will complete three small works on panel. Misty will demonstrate several techniques including priming, fusing, incising, and burning in. Some collage materials will be provided, such as photographs and gold leaf, but participants should feel free to bring some of their own as well. This is a great opportunity to learn the basics of this fascinating medium in a fun and relaxed environment.
