Terrific New Theatre Premieres Charming Comedy About the Ladies Who … Sip

Terrific New Theatre closes its 31st season with the Alabama premiere of a new play whose genre has become a beloved staple of TNT’s repertoire, the Southern comedy. In “The Savannah Sipping Society,” four unique Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines, are drawn together by fate — and an impromptu happy hour — and decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years. Together, they discover lasting friendships and a renewed determination to live in the moment — and, most importantly, realize it’s never too late to make new old friends.

The production stars Amy Light as Randa, a perfectionist and workaholic; Sally Montgomery as Dot, a woman still reeling from her husband’s recent demise; Sharon Morgan as earthy and boisterous Marlafaye; and Suzee Wood Lee as Jinx, a spunky ball of fire offering her services as a much-needed life coach for these women. “The Savannah Sipping Society” was written by the trio of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, who penned such popular Southern comedies as “The Dixie Swim Club” and “Christmas Belles,” both presented by Terrific New Theatre in seasons past.

This production is directed by Tam DeBolt, who completes her first season as TNT’s Artistic Director following the retirement of co-founder Carl W. Stewart last summer.

ONE SUNDAY MATINEE on July 9 at 2:30pm.
