It Gets Better – Stories of Pride

It Gets Better – Stories of Pride

Presented by Steel City Men's Chorus and Central Alabama Pride Inc at Virginia Samford Theatre

Presented by Jeffrey Klinner and sponsored by BBVA Compass Bank and Central Alabama Pride, Steel City Men’s Chorus is back with a very special show, “It Gets Better – Stories of Pride” with special guest artist Shawn Pelofsky.

Birmingham’s gay men’s chorus is doing something entirely new, telling the unvarnished real stories of growing up and living gay in Alabama. Daniel Martin (the Artistic Director for Theater Downtown) interviewed the singers and turned their stories into a dramatic work (their first) that intertwines with powerful music to address bullying, anti-gay violence, suicide, public pressures to remain closeted, what happens when gay men marry straight women, what happens when men marry men, and a lot more. Then Shawn takes the stage with a comedy act stripped straight from the decks of a gay cruise. Shawn is a featured main stage performer at Los Angeles’ world famous Comedy Store. She’s been featured on Chelsea Lately, Community and The Tonight Show. But she may be best known for her work with Atlantis Cruises. You WILL laugh and you WILL cry. It’s going to be a once in a lifetime experience.
