First Thursday: After Hours at the Museum

Presented by Birmingham Museum of Art at Birmingham Museum of Art

Your Night at the Museum!

The Birmingham Museum of Art is pleased to present an after-hours experience on the first Thursday of each month. Wander the galleries, sip cocktails in the garden, catch a movie, or sit down with friends for tapas at Oscar’s. The Museum is open for your enjoyment until 9PM.

6PM: Gallery Talk: The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tree // Join a tour with Interim Curator of Education Kristen Greenwood, who will show works in our collection by artists related to one another.
6:30PM: Art Class // Drop-in and Draw
7PM: Art On Stage // The Birmingham Museum of Art and the Birmingham Art Association are once again partnering to present Art On Stage. Find out if creativity is in the genes when local celebrity Steve Holmes, interviews Trés and Lillis Taylor, father and daughter artists who have collaborated on numerous artistic endeavors.
Trés Taylor is a contemporary self-taught painter living in Birmingham. Taylor was a biochemist for over 20 years then, after a visit with Southern artist R.A. Miller in 1998, he was inspired to begin his journey as a painter. His work can be found in several collections including Dupont Pioneer of Des Moines, IA, the Hurn Museum of Contemporary Folk Art of Savannah, GA, and is publicly displayed at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham.
Trés’ daughter, Lillis Taylor, is an industrial designer who is inspired by her father’s art. Lillis is the founder of Bibb and Tucker Sew-Op in Woodlawn and founder of The March Quilts. Together they have created artful textiles which celebrate the joy of life.
