Sanspointe Dance Company will be hitting the road this summer (June 15th-19th) in order to share solo and group Contemporary Dance choreography and performance within their home state of Alabama. This will be the company’s inaugural AL tour and they hope that it will generate excitement and empathy for dance created by artists residing in the Yellowhammer State.

Works to be presented include solo and group choreography by current and past company members, as well as special performances from each host location. The pieces will include emotional range, technical virtuosity, lyrical contemplation, and spatial manipulation in dances ranging from 3-8 minutes in duration. Guest performances will include students from the University of Alabama and Valley Dance Theatre, as well as dance professionals in Birmingham and Gadsden.

Performances will take place at Children’s Dance Foundation in Birmingham, Clark Studio at the University of Alabama,Valley Dance Theatre in Huntsville, and Gadsden’s Downtown Dance Conservatory. Sanspointe is thankful for the relationships at these locations and hopeful for the creation of new networks across Alabama through an increased touring presence.

Each tour location will also include a free Contemporary Dance master class taught by the tour members. The classes will be geared towards tween to adult ages at an intermediate level and up.

According to Artistic Director, Taryn Packheiser Brown, “We want to spread the experience of live dance by local professionals to as many interested audience members as possible. Our work pushes boundaries of what dance can be and how it can be done. It enables viewers to create meaning out of kinesthetic movement designs. In order to reach as many people as possible with our work we are making this first tour free and open to the public. Please join us!”
