38th Annual National Sacred Harp Singing Convention

38th Annual National Sacred Harp Singing Convention

Presented by Annual National Sacred Harp Singing Convention at BSDA Friendship Hall

Come join us for three days of Southern hospitality, fellowship and shape note singing from the Sacred Harp Hymnal, originally published in Hamilton,Georgia in 1844. The National Sacred Harp singing Convention was started here in Birmingham in 1980, and has been held here each June since. The National is the only three day convention in existence (most S.H. Conventions are two day events, usually Saturday and Sunday). The National is the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before Father’s day. Sacred Harp sings are participatory events. There are no rehearsals and no performances. People who love the unique style and traditions of Sacred Harp gather to sing Hymns, Odes and Anthems from the Sacred Harp Hymnal. At last year’s convention we welcomed over 400 singers from 20 US states, Cananda, and the United Kingdom. Visitors and listeners are welcome to attend.
