Make A Stand Against Ovarian and Childhood Cancer

Make A Stand Against Ovarian and Childhood Cancer

Presented by Hope for Autumn Foundation and Laura Crandall Brown Foundation at The Cajun Cleaver

The Hope for Autumn Foundation and Laura Crandall Brown Foundation have partnered with Milo’s Famous Tea to “Make a Stand” against childhood and ovarian cancer. During July and part of August, individuals and groups can sign up to receive a kit to host their own lemonade stand to raise money to fund research for childhood and ovarian cancer. Each kit, sponsored by Milo’s Famous Tea, will contain 2 gallons of Milo’s Lemonade, cups, and a paper banner. Prizes will be given to the three stands with the highest fundraising totals, as well as the stand with the best banner design. Lemonade kits can be picked up at The Cajun Cleaver in Hoover on July 23, July 31, and August 7. Individuals and teams can register at www.thinkoflaura.org/makeastand.

“This idea came from a young girl in Vestavia who hosts an annual lemonade stand in her neighborhood to raise money for our organization,” said Mary Anne King, Laura Crandall Brown Foundation Executive Director. “We thought it was a wonderful idea – a fun activity for the whole family, and something that enables children to make a difference in a tangible way.” “We are thrilled about this partnership,” said Amanda Knerr, Executive Director for the Hope for Autumn Foundation. “Both causes are close to our hearts, especially because my own daughter was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 6 and research for her type of cancer was so limited.”

The “Make A Stand” initiative is intended to shine a light on the need for research funding for childhood and ovarian cancer, and the widespread impact these diseases have on moms, daughters, and families as a whole. Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer, and 58 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. 1 out of 8 children with cancer will not survive, and almost half of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will not live more than five years past diagnosis. There is a critical need for research for these cancers, both of which are drastically underfunded.

About the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation: The Laura Crandall Brown Foundation was established in 2010 by family and friends of Laura Crandall Brown, who died of ovarian cancer at the age of 25. Our mission is offering hope through research for early detection of ovarian cancer, empowering communities through gynecologic cancer awareness, and enriching lives through support. www.thinkoflaura.org.
