AlaBev's Master of the Brew

AlaBev's Master of the Brew

Presented by AlaBev at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge

Birmingham, AL- Alabama’s craft beer industry continues to expand as AlaBev, Alabama’s premiere craft beer distributor, provides homebrewers a platform to take their brew public with the inaugural, Master of the Brew homebrewing competition. AlaBev is partnering with Hop City and Avondale Brewing Company to launch Master of the Brew at Uncorked! On the Green.

“Homebrewers in Alabama work hard to develop recipes and create some of the best craft beers out there. Homebrewing has launched some of the best beers in the world, including Oskar Blues, Lagunitas and local favorite, Avondale Brewing Company,” states Harry Kampakis, President of AlaBev. “We are providing them a platform to take their brewing to the next level. With the Master of the Brews homebrewing competition, we are excited to discover a unique Fall or Winter Seasonal to brew at Avondale Brewing Company to kick off a series of beers that will be available in select retailers.”

AlaBev’s Fall and Winter seasonal brewing competition registration opens on Thursday, July 8 with a deadline of submission on Saturday, September 26. Judging will take place prior to the event selecting the top 25 homebrewers to showcase their beer at Uncorked! On the Green’s tasting event at Ross Bridge on October 10 from 2:30pm to 5pm. The winner will be announced that day, receiving the opportunity to brew 15 bbls at Avondale Brewing Company in AlaBev’s Master of the Brew series of craft beers and a gift card to Hop City. Beer lovers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites at the event, including Best Beer, Most Unique Style and Most Creative Name.

Registration for the homebrew competition will take place at Hop City, near Pepper Place. All homebrewers must fill out the application, submit a $25 fee (cash or check made out to Classic Events) and provide two 12-22 ounce bottles per entry (limited to two entries per person). Amateur homebrewers, age 21 and up will qualify. Brew must be labeled with the form in the registration packet and attached to the bottle with a rubberband. Bottles must be free of ink, paint or paper labeling other than the competition entry label. Finalists will be notified on Monday, October 5 and asked to sample the brew at Uncorked! On the Green on Saturday, October 10, where the winner will be announced. The registration form is available at www.uncorkedonthegreen.com.

Uncorked! On the Green was established in 2008 as a free beer and wine festival providing event goers a chance to indulge their curiosity and sample over 50 craft beers and dozens of wines from around the world. This premiere outdoor tasting festival celebrates the area’s varied culinary artists, fine wines, craft beers, live music, local and regional artists, children’s activities and more. This year’s event, benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, will take place on ‘The Green’ at Ross Bridge on Saturday, October 10 from 10am until 5pm.
