Presented by Homewood Public Library and OLLI of Greater Birmingham at Homewood Public Library

On December 6, 1889, the Christmas Season in New Orleans was saddened when Jefferson Davis died of unknown causes at the age of 81. His funeral was one of the largest ever staged in the South. After lying in state in New Orleans, he was temporarily interred there for 18 months. It was decided that he should be reinterred in Richmond, Virginia at the Hollywood Cemetery, considered the National Cemetery of the Confederacy.  Join us as Paul Beezley, a professor of History from Jacksonville State, provides amusing and shocking facts about the Confederate President’s funeral event.
